James Yu (image) James Yu

James is Future Networks Manager at SP Energy Networks. He is a charted engineer and an elected IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology) Fellow and a Royal Engineering Academy Visiting Professor.

James joined the UK electricity transmission/distribution industry after he finished his study from Newcastle upon Tyne.

He has taken various technical, commercial and management roles in the industry. James is accountable for the innovation projects at company level and managing a team of scientists, senior project managers and lead engineers.

His team are working on flagship innovation projects at national and European level, and pushing the innovation into business. James has been recognised by the Innovation Star Award in 2016.

James is passionate about education and fully aware of its profound impact on young people’s future. James has strong commitment in the engineering higher education in the UK.

He is a PhD supervisor and visiting professor at various institutes, including Glasgow University, University of Newcastle upon Tyne and the University of Manchester. James published over 40 academic papers covering electricity market, transmission network control, renewable generation and engineering education.

Ting An (image) Ting An

Dr Ting An is a State Specially Recruited Expert, a Chief Expert and Technical Director for oversea projects at Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute (GEIRI).

She is a Charted Engineer in the UK, a fellow of the IET, Convener of CIGRE SC B4.72 Working Group. She is also a distinguished expert of China Energy Research Association, a guest professor of Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shaanxi University of Technology respectively. Her research area is HVDC and HVDC Grids, and off-shore HVDC.

Dr An had worked for China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) China for 5 years, Power Electronic Systems Limited of GE Grid Solutions (former ALSTHOM) T&D UK for 8 years, E.ON New Build & Technology in the UK for 14 years.

She is now working for GEIRI as a State Specially Recruited expert recruited under China’s “1000-Elite Program” sponsored by the Chinese State Council since October 2013.

Her experiences have gained in the planning, modelling, simulation and analysis of transmission and distribution networks including HVAC, HVDC, FACTS, SVC, renewable energy resources and smart grids.
