Coventry Light Tram System
To help reduce the road congestion and pollution around Cambridge and improve travel around the City and its environs, a Metro has been proposed.
Coventry City Council is currently investing in the development of an integrated Very Light Rail ‘Tram’ System which will have shuttle vehicles running on rails and powered by batteries. The project is scheduled to deliver a first route in Coventry by the end of 2024. WMG at the University of Warwick has been contracted to deliver a novel shuttle vehicle and low cost track solution. The shuttle vehicle is being designed by Transport Design International (TDI) with support from engineers and researchers at WMG. TDI have partnered with Coventry-based company RDM to manufacture the vehicle, with a prototype scheduled for delivery in 2020.
The talk and presentation will be given by Dr Nick Mallinson, a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Nick joined WMG in 2005 as Research Manager for the Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (WIMRC), having previously been VP for Sales & Marketing at Dynex Semiconductor Limited. In January 2012 he was appointed Programme Manager for the newly established WMG centre High Value Manufacturing Catapult. This centre is focussed on collaborative research with industrial partners in the area of low carbon mobility, in particular the light-weighting of vehicles and improved energy storage and management solutions for electric and hybrid vehicles.
