Creation of the UK Cyber Council

Prior to joining the IET as Head of Registration and Standards, Colin held senior director, management and leadership positions in a variety of industries and organisations, including at the BBC, where he was Chief Advisor to the Marketing, Communications and Audiences directorate; as Corporate Services Director at public transport operator Transdev (where he was also Chair of the Nottingham Tram Consortium and led the Operations team at Edinburgh Tram); Director, Business Management and Transition at the Strategic Rail Authority; Director, Consultancy at AEA Technology Rail and as a Senior Engineer at British Gas. 

Originally a Control and Instrumentation Engineer, Colin’s career also included designing control and instrumentation equipment for research applications and the design of electronic and microprocessor-based devices for use in safety-critical applications, before moving into engineering management, change management and leadership roles.  Colin has a BEng(Hons) in Electronic Engineering from Middlesex University and an MBA (with Distinction) from Kingston University Business School

Colin has been a Chartered Engineer since 1992, a Fellow of the IET since 2001 and his volunteering roles include as Professional Review Interviewer at the IET since 1997 and as a Fellow Assessor since 2005.  Colin represents the IET at the Engineering Council’s International Advisory Panel and as Chair of the International Registration Committee and on a number of Working Groups.
