Wow that's bright!!

Obtrusive light and how its effects can be mitigated

Obtrusive light can be considered in many forms and includes light nuisance (glare and light spill), sky glow that prevents us appreciating the true night sky to adverse effects on bats and other wildlife.

Allan Howard will introduce the topic of obtrusive light.  Allan will discuss how planners, environmental experts, installers and lighting professionals can look to the guidance and controls that exist currently.  He will look at the guidance that is being developed to help determine if artificial light needs to be deployed.  When artificial light is required it should be designed that the task requirements are met whilst mitigating the adverse impacts.
