Midlands automotive technologies

About

Join us for an evening learning about automotive technologies in the Midlands, presented by a group of expert speakers in their subjects:

Keith Laing and Mark Ferguson of Aalberts Surface Technologies Heat Ltd will present "Nitrotec® - benefits to the automotive industry", giving an historical overview of Nitrotec® surface treatment followed by examples of applications.

Dr David Moule, Technical Specialist - Electric Drives at the Servo Drives Centre of Competence, Corporate Research and Development, ZF Group, will discuss some of the technical challenges involved in designing automotive servo drives such as electric power steering for the era of connected and autonomous electric vehicles. Examples presented will touch on the increasingly relevant themes of sustainability and systems engineering.

David Sanchez, Senior Technical Specialist in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems at JLR will present an overview of current and future ADAS, why these are being developed, some technical aspects and the main challenges for deployment.

Mike Jones, Chief Engineer - Special Vehicles at Alcon Components will talk about how the transition to electric vehicles gives the opportunity to re-evaluate how brake systems are specified. This is happening at the same time as many new materials and technologies have become available and the talk will give brief details about how regenerative braking, brake-by-wire, new disc and pad materials, etc., are affecting brake system specification, test schedules and the design of the car itself.
