Mini Robot Day, Derby 2022
Building the Future Together
About Robot Day
Robot Day is a celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) for people of all ages. The events showcase the value of robotics to society and raise public engagement with issues relating to robotics, automation and artificial intelligence (AI). For more info see: robotday.co.uk/about
Workshop (booking essential - see Registration)
We are inviting participants to work with digital artist Ashley James Brown to experience a taster session in producing an immersive world experienced through virtual reality headsets. Learn modelling and animation, working alongside Ashley and other participants to collaboratively build a world together that will be curated and displayed in virtual reality to celebrate Robot Day.
You will work within a 3D games engine environment to build a landscape that imagines the future of our world. Will you create futuristic illuminated skyscrapers and flying cars or will you sculpt natural landscapes filled with strange creatures? How might robots be involved in this imagined landscape and what part do they play in the future of our world?
No VR or 3D modelling experience necessary, however familiarity with using a computer, keyboard and mouse is essential.
Inspiration Rover was born out of a group of students' passion for electronics at the University of Derby, wanting to challenge themselves further on an exciting project, separate from their studies. Join us at QUAD to have an opportunity to control the rover.

Citizens of Robot World
QUAD and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) invited QUAD participants and the general public to become Citizens of Robot World for Robot Day Virtual 2021. This open call exhibition invited audiences to make something robot related along the theme of “Building a better world”. Submissions took the form of 3D models, 2D drawings, animation and physical objects scanned using photogrammetry. This exhibition is available online via New Art City at newart.city/show/citizens-of-robot-world and will also be shown in the Resource Area at QUAD on 26th November.
