Deep learning object detection within images has revolutionised AI in the past few years.  However, the growing energy requirements to power the computer servers is becoming a major problem.

Optical computation has long been a possible solution to this, it has the capabilities of calculating at the speed of light!

A number of technological challenges remain. This talk will discuss the current state of the art.
