Webinar: How do Biomedical Engineers Fight Against COVID-19 and Future Pandemics
Engineers have responded to the ongoing crisis by adapting the changes and utilizing their existing skills and equipment to help fight against the COVID-19. With an upsurge of confirmed cases and demand for manpower and equipment over the last two years in Hong Kong, we have seen the important role that medical technology contributes to virus testing and patient monitoring.
The webinar aims to introduce the latest techniques and tools that have been used in pandemic healthcare, such as testing, monitoring and therapy. The Speaker will also share their experiences and challenges encountered fighting the COVID-19, as well as their vision of how they detect and combat cancers.
Biography
Dr. Terence Tsz Wai Wong received his B.Eng. and M.Phil. degrees both from the University of Hong Kong in 2011 and 2013. He has proceeded to study for his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis and Medical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, under the tutelage of Prof. Lihong V. Wang (member of the National Academy of Engineering and Inventors). Right after his Ph.D. graduation, he joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE). He is also the Director of the HKUST Research Center for Medical Imaging and Analysis (CMIA).
With the integration of optical/photoacoustic imaging and deep-learning algorithms, his research focuses on developing smart optical and photoacoustic devices to enable label-free and high-speed histological imaging, three-dimensional whole-organ imaging, and low-cost cancer-targeting deep-tissue imaging.
