Hydrogen: Current and Future Possibilities

Currently, some six million tonnes of hydrogen is employed every year in the production of a wide range of products and almost half of this is used in the production of artificial fertilizer based on ammonia (NH4). Thus, hydrogen is a vital processing agent and various aspects of these uses will be considered in this talk, A particularly interesting process involving the use of hydrogen in the production and in the recycling of NdFeB-type sintered magnets was discovered here in Birmingham and the process is shown in graphic detail by in-situ videos. This process has revolutionised the production of NdFeB -type magnets and this has vital implications with regard to offshore wind generators. , Hydrogen can also, very effectively be employed to generate electricity by means of a fuel cell

and this has been employed in the  ROSS BARLOW  canal boat project. This is also described in this talk when combined with the long term storage of hydrogen. by means of a metal hydride.
