The Industrial Revolution rebooted; Industry 4.0 is here

Industry 4.0; the next industrial revolution arriving soon

Lean and Six Sigma have proved to be the dominant and sustainable business and process improvement models that have evolved in the latter decades of the 20th Century. The improvement benefits of Lean Six Sigma have impacted on a diverse variety of industrial, manufacturing, commercial and health care sectors.

Largely, these benefits were realised under a mature though gradually evolving technological and business landscape where the Lean Six approach provided a good fit to sustainable improvement. The emergence of Industry 4.0 implies a more rapid rise in technological evolution disrupting conventional business and operating models.

The desire to improve is a consistent theme within business evolution (and indeed human evolution) and that desire will potentially grow given the promised benefits of Industry 4.0. Given the both the success and dominance of Lean Six Sigma as an improvement model, there is a need to consider the relevance of the methodology to Industry 4.0?
