2030 and beyond: Challenges for Transmission System in the North of Scotland
About
The IET Scotland Power Technical Network (PTN) is thrilled to invite you to an engaging in-person event designed to reconnect and inspire our engineering community. We are honoured to welcome Dr. Ryan Tumilty, Head of System Performance, SSEN Transmission. Dr. Ryan is an experienced specialist in power system analysis & planning, leading SSEN Transmission's System Performance group. His teams deliver electromagnetic transient, power quality and stability studies for the transmission system in the North of Scotland.
About the Session - The North of Scotland is at the forefront of the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy system, with a rapidly evolving electricity transmission network playing a critical role. This event will provide an overview of the current state of our transmission system in the region, highlighting its unique challenges and opportunities. A key focus will be the commissioning of the Caithness – Moray – Shetland HVDC project, a groundbreaking development that strengthens interconnectivity and supports renewable energy integration. The talk will also touch on the growing importance of Large Scale EMT Modelling in ensuring system stability as more renewable and inverter-based generation connects to the grid. We will conclude with reflections on key industry challenges and the exciting career opportunities emerging in the power sector.
Join us to gain insights into how we are building a smarter, greener transmission network for the decades to come. This event will take place at the Doubletree by Hilton and includes a dedicated networking session, where you’ll have the chance to connect with peers and exchange ideas over refreshments.
