    NovaSAR update – Launch campaign and in-orbit performance

    The first IET Solent Retired Members presentation described the NovaSAR programme and how a low cost UK space radar was developed for Earth Observation. This update will describe the launch campaign that took place in September 2018, culminating in a successful launch. Sample imagery from the mission will be shown illustrating the unique capabilities of Synthetic Aperture Radar, the flexibility of the operating modes of NovaSAR, and a taste of the types of applications that are enabled by the mission.

    Peter Davies is a Security Expert operating at the convergence of Safety and Security. An honorary Fellow with Imperial College’s Institute for Security Science & Technology and chair of the AESIN Security Workstream. He is a leading expert on Countering Cyber Attacks targeted Supply Chain Infiltration and Cyber Physical Attacks. He has lead the Cyber Security aspects of 2 C-CAV research activities and has 30+ years of verifying security systems in hardware and software. Peter likes to say that he does security where it can’t afford to fail. Peter is sought after by organisations for his advice on their legal position with respect to Cyber-attacks. Peter is delighted to share his experience and knowledge to answer the question we have all wondered - how safe are we?!

    Mechanosensitive Proteins, Methods of Analysis and Future Applications

    This presentation will cover ongoing research, as part of my PhD, into applying biomechanical theories to describe mechanosensing proteins in blood platelets. I shall discuss how specific structures within these proteins function as tension sensors and shock absorbers, and how we can then model them in mechanical simulations using the robotics principles of Kinematics and Statics.
