“There is no show without spectrum.” The RF spectrum is the critical enabler that supports wireless connectivity. But RF Spectrum – in the frequency bands of greatest practicality (presently) – is a finite resource that needs to be carefully managed and regulated to ensure that it is used to best effect and to maximise efficiency.
In this presentation, we will take a 15-year journey in spectrum sharing for wireless comms and seek to convey the early challenges encountered and how they’ve been overcome. Along our path, we’ll introduce how we met the broadcast industry and why wireless broadcasting became our killer use case for private 5G.
We’ll show how private 5G has come of age as a communications medium capable of supporting live HD, low latency, video wireless broadcasts with examples covering HRH Queen Elizabeth II final departure from Scotland via Edinburgh Airport, HRH King Charles III Coronation in London, and most recently, the greatest sporting event of 2024 that took place this summer in Europe.

Cameron is the Chief Executive Officer for Neutral Wireless Ltd – a Software Defined Radio company specialising in the development and delivery of private 5G solutions, know-how and services. He has over 30-years’ experience working in signal processing and communications systems. Throughout his career, Cameron has operated at the forefront of cutting-edge R&D, Business Management, Technology Insertion, Strategy Development, and Transformational Change, where he has led teams delivering complex, highly innovative programmes to clients in the UK, US, and Middle East. In 2024, he was appointed as a Non-Executive Director on the Ofcom Advisory Committee Scotland. Cameron has a BEng from University of Glasgow, and MSc and PhD from University of Strathclyde. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET.
