About

Presentation

Presentation title: How AI perceives the world.

Speaker’s name: Dr Matthew Teow

Synopsis: Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is widely used in computer vision applications to facilitate surveillance, monitoring, and tracking of visual objects, thereby ensuring societal safety, automating tasks, and supporting informed decision-making. Although AI has achieved remarkable progress in modernizing our society and is seamlessly integrating into our daily lives and work culture, it helps humans solve and automate complex tasks in the blink of an eye. However, it remains mysterious and sounds magical to most of us. This presentation will demonstrate the history, algorithm development, technical insights, and applications of using AI, specifically deep learning, for computer vision tasks. We hope that, by the end of this presentation, the audience will have a clearer understanding of AI for computer vision as valuable take-home knowledge.

Workshop

Workshop title: AI in Your Pocket:  Machine Learning with Micro:bit

Facilitator’s name: Dr Jason Tan

Synopsis: Machine Learning with Micro:bit enables students and hobbyists to the exciting world of artificial intelligence using the BBC Micro:bit, which is a small, beginner-friendly microcontroller. This hands-on workshop enable first-timer to explores how to collect sensor data, train simple machine learning models, and deploy them directly to the device to recognize patterns, gestures, or environmental changes. Through fun, practical projects, attendees learn key concepts like data collection, classification, and model deployment in real life while building creative, interactive experiments. Perfect for classrooms, coding clubs, or individual exploration, this workshop makes AI approachable, tangible, and fun for learners of all ages.
