AI & Vibe Coding for Engineering hosted by IET Singapore Local Network

About

Presentation 1: From AI Curiosity to Engineering Execution: Translating Business Needs into Practical AI Solutions

Speaker: Mr Kenny Tay, CEO of Singapore A.I. Association (SAIA), Founder of AI49 International Group

Synopsis: This technical talk examines how engineering professions can bridge the gap between AI awareness and real-world deployment by adopting a structured, systems-oriented approach to implementation. Drawing on insights from the SAIA AI Discovery Clinic, it demonstrates how operational challenges can be translated into clearly defined, high-impact AI use cases using a vendor-neutral methodology. The session outlines practical frameworks for problem scoping, prioritisation, and solution design, while addressing common failure points in AI projects, including unclear value definition, poor integration, and organisational misalignment. Emphasis is placed on the “last-mile” of adoption—where engineering rigour, cross-functional collaboration, and workforce readiness determine success. Through real-world examples, attendees will gain insight into measurable productivity gains and transformation outcomes, and leave with a clear roadmap to progress from pilot initiatives to scalable, sustainable AI-enabled systems within their organisations.

Presentation 2: Vibe Coding for Engineers: How Claude AI Lets You Build Practical Tools Without Writing Code

Speaker: Mr See HaoJun, Trainer & Founder of On The Ground

Synopsis: Engineers today are under pressure to automate routine work, streamline documentation, and quickly prototype internal tools; yet many improvements never get built because traditional software development cycles are slow or resource-heavy. The speaker focuses on helping professional teams rapidly build AI-powered micro-apps using vibe coding: a natural-language, prompt-driven approach that allows anyone to create functional tools without coding. In this session, he will introduce the principles of vibe coding, show real examples from professional teams, and demonstrate how engineers can use Claude Code and Claude Cowork to convert daily workflow friction into working prototypes within minutes, no prior coding experience required. Participants will also receive temporary access to build their own micro-apps live, seeing first-hand how Claude AI can support engineering workflows in reporting, documentation, testing utilities, analysis helpers, and operational automation.
