Applications of AI in Floating Offshore Wind Engineering and Fintech hosted by IET Singapore

About

Presentation 1

Presentation title: State-of-the-art Floating Offshore Wind Technologies with Deep Learning Digital Twin presented by Kobe Yung

Synopsis of the presentation:
The speaker will begin the sharing of background and the latest developments of floating offshore wind farms, along with some technical design considerations and industrial code of practice. Offshore wind energy has been contributing to the road of global decarbonisation and UK’s Net Zero 2050 target. Floating offshore wind technology is considered to have greater potential than the traditional approach of using fixed-bottom foundation infrastructure because most offshore wind resources are in the deep-sea region. However, maintaining large scale floating wind farm has enormous challenges under severe wind, wave and sea current conditions. Digital Twin technology provides the alternative solution in sophisticatedly monitoring the structural health. The speaker will present how to leverage AI Deep Learning to create high quality accelerated structural dynamics surrogate model prediction, which is faster than real-time for the instantaneous Digital Twin modelling.

Presentation 2

Presentation title: AI in Finance - Opportunities and Challenges presented by Dr. Tan Xue Wen

Synopsis of the presentation:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping industries across the board, and Finance is no exception. In the first half of this presentation, we will explore the diverse and evolving applications of AI in Finance, such as algorithmic trading, risk assessment, fraud detection, and personalized financial services, while highlighting current trends and future directions. The second half will focus on the limitations and risks of AI in financial contexts, including issues of bias, interpretability, and regulatory challenges. We will also discuss the role of human-centered AI (HCAI), in addressing these concerns and ensuring that technological progress remains aligned with ethical and societal values.

Speakers

Kobe Yung

Researcher, A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing

Kobe Yung obtained his MPhil and BEng in Civil Structural Engineering from the HKUST with research experience in structural wind engineering. Currently, he is a researcher at the Singapore’s A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing Singapore working on the leading Deep Learning Structural Digital Twin. He is pursuing PhD in Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, specialising in Floating Offshore Wind Structural Digital Twin. Prior to his PhD research, Kobe was a structural engineer at AECOM with design experience of civil infrastructure projects, including Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 Expansion and Offshore LNG Terminal structural steel.

Dr. Tan Xue Wen

Artificial Intelligence Manager, IMDA

Xue Wen is an Artificial Intelligence Manager at the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). He holds a Ph.D. in Digital Financial Technology from the Asian Institute of Digital Finance (AIDF) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and graduated with First-Class Honours in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng). His doctoral research, titled "Human-Centered AI for Financial Decision Making," focused on AI-driven financial risk modeling, generative AI for social good, and natural language processing. He has published his work and presented at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), a top-tier A* conference in the field. Prior to his current role, Xue Wen worked at DBS Bank as an Information Systems Analyst and Software Engineer, where he contributed to the development of institutional banking platforms. He also interned at MediaTek as an integrated circuit (IC) design engineer, with his work presented at the SNUG 2018 conference.
