This online seminar from MIPAR Image Analysis introduces the concepts of image analysis and its growing importance across engineering and technology. It will describe MIPAR’s advanced image analysis software, designed to extract accurate, quantitative information from complex images across engineering and scientific domains. Key capabilities include intuitive development of custom analysis “recipes”, and integration of artificial intelligence and deep learning to detect, segment and measure features with high accuracy and consistency.
The introduction of AI-driven tools, including deep learning-based segmentation and feature recognition, allows automation of complex image interpretation tasks that would otherwise require extensive manual effort. These capabilities enable consistent detection of subtle or highly variable features, while maintaining user oversight and validation of results. The use of AI allows the development of task-based tools, e.g. MIPAR’s Spotlight and Snap tools. Spotlight applies advanced AI models to rapidly analyse images and generate automated solutions for feature detection and measurement, reducing development time. Snap is a Spotlight-powered drawing tool that uses simple point or box selections to dramatically speed up the annotation process for deep learning.
Practical examples will include applications in manufacturing, including automated inspection, defect detection, and materials characterisation such as grain size, particle distribution and porosity analysis. These tools support quality by reducing variability and accelerating measurement tasks. Beyond manufacturing, the webinar will explore uses in research fields such as materials science and life sciences.
