Dual-Fuctional Batteries absorbing Salt or CO2
About
As the world moves toward electrification, the demand for sustainable and abundant battery materials is rapidly increasing. Our research explores how sodium-based batteries, built from widely available materials, could do far more than store energy. What if batteries could also help tackle two of humanity’s biggest challenges: clean water and climate change?
In this outreach lecture, we will explore the science behind using seawater as a battery electrolyte, the challenges of corrosion and stability, and how these systems might one day desalinate water while storing energy. We will also introduce emerging batteries capable of capturing carbon dioxide during discharge, putting the genie back in the bottle.
