Carbon Capture - Challenges & Solutions

About

As a result of the net zero commitments adopted by many governments around the world the requirement for CO2 transport and sequestration infrastructure is accelerating rapidly. Despite the urgent need, there are several technical barriers in place which could hinder design and delay operational readiness of these systems.

This event will explore these challenges by examining a typical CCUS collection hub from the perspective of a transport engineer. An overview of existing/planned projects will be presented, along with a discussion of how future diversification of CO2 emitter sources may introduce additional complexities. Further topics will cover CO2 specification, modelling accuracy and the consequence of specification excursions. Potential solutions - such as the use of a digital tool for real-time monitoring and look-ahead forecasting - will also be addressed.

Craig McKay

Energy Transition Lead - Wood

With over 12 years experience in the industry Craig has a background in both flow assurance and process engineering, providing consulting for a variety of onshore and offshore projects.

Craig is a specialist in the modelling of CO2 rich fluids and subsequent model set-up, having been involved with some of Europes largest CCS projects. He has furthered his experience in the thermodynamic modelling of CO2-rich fluids in the production of good practice in conjunction with the Energy Institue Guideline for Setting the CO2 Specification in CCUS Chains, which has won multiple industry awrds.
