Evolving interaction between applications and 6G networks in enabling cognitive collaboration

This lecture brings together two complementary perspectives on the evolution of human collaboration and its implications for future communication systems.
In the first part, Jocelyn Lomer will introduce the nuVa collaborative medium, founded on the principle that natural face-to-face interaction represents the most effective form of human collaboration and that remote working environments should deliberately emulate these collaborative processes at the Human-to-Cloud Interface. Drawing upon anthropology, sociology, psychology and human evolution, the presentation will explore the evolution of remote collaboration media, their influence on human cognition, and the role of cognitive artefacts - including Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the integration of complementary information around complex 3D models - in enhancing shared understanding, innovation and programme delivery.
In the second part, Seshaiah Ponnekanti will discuss how the evolution towards 6G communications is expected to provide the networking capabilities required to support emerging cognitive applications. The presentation will outline key 6G technology trends and architectural developments that are anticipated to enable intelligent, context-aware and highly distributed applications, highlighting how future communication networks may evolve to meet the demands of increasingly collaborative and cognitive digital systems.

Jocelyn Lomer CEng MIET, MSc., MBA
Dr Seshaiah Ponnekanti
Jocelyn is a Chartered Engineer and member of the IET; he also holds an MSc. from Brunel as well as a Henley MBA. Jocelyn is CEO of nuVa Enterprises and has over 40 years’ experience in telecommunications and software and over 20 years specialising in virtual meetings. As owner of the advanced nuVa remote collaboration software he has a unique perspective on how new remote collaboration media can positively transform both projects and organisations.
With a keen interest in the potential of enhanced Ultra Reliable and Low Latency Communications (eURLLC), Seshaiah works in R&D in the upcoming area of 6G communications and networking. He works in the overall telecom life cycle covering R&D, deployment and standardisation activities.
