Dark and Quiet Skies: Balancing Satellite Growth with Protection of the Night Sky
About
Join the IET Satellite Technical Network for a one-hour, debate-style webinar examining how growing satellite activity affects astronomy, cultural relationships with the night sky, and the responsible use of low Earth orbit. Bringing together perspectives from society and culture, astronomy, the satellite industry, academia and government or space agencies, the panel will consider optical and radio-frequency interference, responsible satellite design, standards, regulation and the cumulative effects of satellite constellations. The discussion will move beyond a simple pro-space or anti-space framing to explore how the benefits of satellite services can be balanced with protection of the night sky as a shared scientific, cultural and environmental resource. Short opening statements will be followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience questions.
