Shivaun Meehan
Communications Manager - National Centre for Universities and Business/Konfer Database
Shivaun is known as a communications strategist and practitioner in both the public and private sector. Her skills include strategic planning, media relations, digital media communications, public affairs, writing, editing, research and project management.
Shivaun has generated and monitored media coverage, given interviews and speeches, delivered & maintained websites, corporate identities and brand management.
Currently Head of Communications for the National Centre for Universities and Business (ncub.co.uk). The NCUB has created Konfer – an open-source database which is a well-kept secret.
Previously Managing Director at J & WJ Morris, Containersafe Ltd; Group Communications Manager at digital communications consultants, RTSe and Deputy Communications Director at the Broadcasting Standards Commission.
Joe Pearce
Head of Business Support - SetSquared (University of Exeter)
Joe Pearce is the Business Support Manager at the University of Exeter's Innovation Centre, with a focus on building the community of businesses which exist in and around the Innovation Centre and the SetSquared start-ups.
Working closely with the client businesses, Joe can address issues arising as well as supporting the growth and development of the clients through direct interactions or facilitating links to other business and business which form part of the Centre network.
Prior to joining the Innovation Centre, Joe worked with the Set Squared at the University of Exeter, and established Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and business placements.
He also has experience in owning and running small businesses having been Commercial Manager of a Process Engineering business and Director of a funding consultancy. Joe gained his MBA from University of Exeter in 2011.
Dr Mark Scibor-Rylski
High Technology Venture Capitalist
Mark is a high technology venture capitalist with industrial, financial, scientific, and engineering skills, focusing on supporting new technology businesses.
He has worked at BAC, Xerox, the Kaye Organisation, Prutec, Charterhouse, managed Central European privatisations, and worked with the University of Exeter to create start-ups and build bridges to companies. Mark has raised and managed hands-on early-stage venture funds, investing in the UK, Europe and the US.
He now specialises in derisking early-stage investments and developing ways of accelerating growth, partnerships and exits for innovation-led companies.
He is a director of several technology companies, a graduate of Imperial College and City University, a Chartered Engineer and Physicist and is on the Committees of the IET’s Management of Innovation Technical Network and the IoP’s Business and Innovation Growth Group
