Digital Twin & CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) hosted by IET Singapore Local Network
About
Presentation 1: From Concept to Impact: Turning Digital Twins into Measurable Business Results
Speaker: Mr David Chan, Vice President of Singapore Advanced Manufacturing Technology Association (SAMTA), Director of Advent2 Labs Consultation Pte Ltd
Synopsis: While many companies recognise the promise of Digital Twin (DT) technology, challenges remain in justifying investments, integrating systems, and achieving measurable returns. This session addresses these gaps by demonstrating how DTs can be effectively deployed to support data-driven decision-making, process optimisation, and cost reduction. Through practical insights and industry examples, the session will explore how DTs translate into bottom-line improvements, common pitfalls when adopting DT solutions and how to avoid them, the role of validated data verse assumptions in decision-making, how organisations can start small and scale their DT initiatives. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how to connect DT strategies to business outcomes, enabling smarter investments and sustainable operational excellence.
Presentation 2: CAE Simulation with AI-enhanced Multidisciplinary Optimization
Speaker: Dr Oak Yannapol, Regional Manager of CAE & AI at CAD-IT Consultants (Asia) Pte Ltd
Synopsis: Engineering simulation has moved well beyond single-point, single-domain analysis. This talk explores how Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) is being transformed by Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) and artificial intelligence. MDO allows engineers to optimize a design across competing physics simultaneously; balancing structural integrity, thermal behaviour, fluid flow, and electromagnetic performance in a single coupled workflow — rather than tuning each discipline in isolation and discovering conflicts late. The session covers practical applications, from automated design exploration and trade-off studies to predictive digital twins and discusses what this convergence of MDO and AI means for engineering teams adopting these capabilities in Singapore and across the region.
