Engineering at CERN: A student‑focused look at placements, careers, and how to apply
About
The IET is hosting a webinar on the 14th April at 12pm for UK engineering students to find out about opportunities at CERN. You will hear from two CERN engineers who have done student placements and graduate roles within CERN about their work and experiences working in the CERN RF and diagnostics groups, then hear about the opportunities for current engineering students and how to apply.
About CERN
CERN is the leading organisation for particle physics research in the world, but it take a massive team of engineers to operate such a complex machine. CERN offers students pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in engineering a unique paid opportunity to join in the day-to-day work of research teams participating in experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland with both summer and year-in-industry placements as well as employing recent graduates. Beyond the outstanding first-class engineering value of their stay, the selected students will find working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment an extremely enriching personal experience. It is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make valuable and long-lasting contacts with other students and engineers from all over the world.
Opportunities exist for most engineering disciplines, as long as you have completed 18 months of your degree at the time of selection. Most opportunities are only open to students who are nationals of a CERN Member state or associated member state, although a small number are open internationally For more details about opportunities at CERN please visit this webpage.
