About

The IET  Victoria, Australia Local Network is delighted to announce an exciting field visit to Carlton Brewhouse in Abbotsford VIC, the Home of Australia’s Favourite Beers aimed at experiencing over 100 years of brewing history.

Located at Victoria's largest brewery & home of some of Australia's favourite beers including Carlton Draught & Victoria Bitter. On this brewery tour you will be taken through the historic Abbotsford site. You'll be guided through over 100 years of brewing history & knowledge as you experience the sheer scale of this iconic facility on the banks of the Yarra.

History:
Carlton Brewhouse have been brewing beer on the banks of the Yarra River in Abbotsford for over 100 years. The site of the current brewery was originally home of the Melbourne Co-Operative Brewing Company, a brewery established in 1904 by Melbourne publicans to compete with the Society of Melbourne Brewers (a group that included the Victoria Brewery and Carlton Brewery). Here they brewed Abbotsford Stout and Melbourne Bitter (amongst other great brews).

In 1924 The Melbourne Cooperative Brewery and Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) joined forces to become the dominant Victorian brewer producing a formidable portfolio of beers, many of which we still make today. Over the next 80 years CUB’s other Melbourne breweries closed down and the Abbotsford site grew to its current size, capable of brewing up to 150,000 litres of beer a day.
