Joint-event: Technical Talk 1 – Advancements in Systems Engineering Technical; Talk 2 – Navigating the Future: Autonomous Mobile Robots in Smart Manufacturing — Perception, Challenges, and Real-World Deployment
About
Technical Talk 1 – Advancements in Systems Engineering
Speaker: Mr Robert Ong, President – INCOSE Singapore Chapter
Foundations and Advancements explores the discipline’s role in designing, integrating, and managing complex systems across industries such as aerospace, defense, healthcare, and information technology. Participants will gain insights into the holistic approach of systems engineering, which emphasizes lifecycle management, requirements analysis, risk assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The session will highlight how systems engineering bridges technical and organizational domains to ensure efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in modern projects.
Recent advancements in systems engineering, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital twins, artificial intelligence integration, and agile methodologies—will be discussed to showcase how the field is evolving to meet contemporary challenges. Attendees will learn how these innovations enhance decision-making, improve system validation, and accelerate development cycles. The seminar will also emphasize the growing importance of systems engineering in addressing global issues like smart infrastructure, autonomous systems, and sustainability.
Technical Talk 2 - Navigating the Future: Autonomous Mobile Robots in Smart Manufacturing — Perception, Challenges, and Real-World Deployment
Speaker: Mr Cheng Chia Loon, Senior System Architect, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore
Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are emerging as a cornerstone of flexible manufacturing, enabling intelligent material transport, adaptive task execution, and seamless human-robot collaboration on the factory floor. This seminar presents applied research addressing core AMR challenges in perception, navigation, and decision-making within dynamic, unstructured industrial environments.
A central focus is placed on the practical gap between simulation and real-world deployment — a critical bottleneck in scaling AMR solutions. Key technical challenges examined include robust localization in cluttered and GPS-denied environments, multi-sensor fusion for reliable obstacle detection, and coordinated fleet management under competing task demands. These challenges are explored not only from an algorithmic standpoint, but also in the context of real deployment constraints such as latency, hardware limitations, and environmental variability.
This seminar aims to provide researchers, engineers, and industry practitioners with actionable insights into advancing AMR readiness for next-generation smart manufacturing ecosystems.
