Low-Carbon Cooling for Indoor Spaces and Technical Quiz Night hosted by YPS IET Singapore Network
Our IET Singapore event is open to both IET members and non-members.
About
Title: Low-Carbon Alternative and Innovative Cooling for Indoor Spaces
Synopsis:
Passive displacement cooling gently delivers cool air via buoyancy. As the air absorbs heat from people, lights and equipment, it rises and is collected at the ceiling, then cooled again through the coil before repeating the cycle. By relying on natural buoyancy instead of high fan power, this approach operates quietly, uses significantly less energy and serves as a low-carbon alternative to conventional air-conditioning. Overall, it is a smarter and more sustainable way to cool indoor spaces—using physics rather than force.

Reasons to attend
In the Technical Talk, Gilbert will share his technical expertise in the area of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). In particular, he will give insights on passive displacement cooling technique, which leverages on natural buoyancy of the hot air and in turns saves significant energy when cooling an indoor space. This technique serves as a low-carbon alternative to conventional air-conditioning, as it allows the HVAC systems to employ parts (e.g. fans, cooling coil) that consumes less energy.
After that, an interactive technical pub quiz will take place. The quiz rounds could be: solving wordle, solving puzzle, answering pub quiz questions. Participants with the top scores will earn prizes.
