Machine-Aided Detection for Hong Kong Celebrities: Advancing Beyond Commercial Deepfake Detection Systems

Organized by Management Section, IET Hong Kong

About

In recent years, there have been reported incidents of deepfake manipulation used for impersonation, spreading misinformation and facilitating financial fraud across various online platforms.

This seminar introduces the critical challenges posed by deepfake impersonation, with a particular focus on celebrity deepfake detection. It will examine the fundamental cybersecurity issues surrounding the use of commercial detection platforms such as AliCloud and Deepware.ai. The session will also highlight recent research conducted by the speaker on developing a specialized training dataset for Hong Kong celebrities—an essential resource that is currently unavailable—to improve both deepfake generation and detection accuracy.

In light of rapid advances in machine learning and AI technologies, the seminar underscores the importance of maintaining up-to-date datasets to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of deepfake detection platforms.
