The 2025 Two Sessions of China have set forth critical policies that will shape the nation's innovation, technology, and engineering landscape. This seminar aims to dissect these policies, providing a detailed analysis of their implications for the engineering and technology sectors.

Key highlights from the 2025 sessions include significant investments in high-tech industries, initiatives to bolster innovation capabilities through science and education, and strategies to upgrade traditional industries.

The seminar will explore the China Government Work Report, which outlines strategies to achieving high-quality development and enhancing its global competitiveness through technological advancements.

Participants will gain insights into how these policies will impact the engineering and technology sectors, both in China and globally. The seminar will also explore the implications for Hong Kong's economy and its strategic positioning within the Greater Bay Area.

Speakers

Dr. Hon Johnny Ng, MH JP

Member of the National Committee of the CPPCC - Member of the Legislative Council of the HKSAR

Dr. Ng graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy. He then completed postdoctoral research at Tsinghua University in Beijing in 2006, specializing in computer science and technology.

Furthermore, Dr. Johnny NG Kit-chong has been a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)  since 2018 and was elected as a member of the seventh Legislative Council in 2021. He is currently one of our Legislative councilors, elected from Election Committee.

He was awarded ‘Ten Outstanding Dig Youth’ in 2000 and was appointed as the Independent Director for China Unicom (600050.SH) on top of being Independent Director of Chuang’s China (0298.HK). 

He is committed in various social services and take up key roles in serving the community, such as Council Member of the Baptist University, member of Advisory Committee of Arts Development, Past Chairman of Hong Kong Youth United Association, Honorary Chairman of YELITES. He was also the past Chairman of Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET Hong Kong). He has been devoted and much contribution in information technology, cultural performance and youth development.

In 2010, Dr. Ng established the "Hong Kong Youth Synergy Foundation Ltd." and has since served as its convener. By organizing various large-scale youth activities, he has consistently worked to encourage young people and students to delve deeper into innovation and technology.

From the Web 3 arena, Johnny is the non Executive Chairman of G Rocket International Accelerator. He initiated Web3 Hub@Cyperport in Jan 2023. 

For Legislative Council affairs, he is also recently appointed as the Chairman for “Subcommittee on Issues Relating to the Development of Web3 and Virtual Assets”. 

Prof. Hon Wong Kam-Fai, MH

Member of the National Committee of the CPPCC - Member of the Legislative Council of the HKSAR

Associate Dean (External Affairs), Faculty of Engineering, CUHK 

Kam-fai Wong is the Associate Dean (External Affairs) of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, Director of Centre for Innovation and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. 

Prof. Wong’s research interest primarily revolves Chinese computing, database and information retrieval. He’s an ACL Fellow and is very active in professional and public service. He serves as Member of the 13th & 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, Member of the 7th Legislative Council of the HKSAR, Advisor of Our Hong Kong Foundation, Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association, Vice Chairman & Secretary General of Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, Director of Finance Dispute Resolution Centre, Executive Member of Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation, Member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology, and Advisor of Guangzhou Association for Science and Technology, etc. 

Prof. Wong was awarded the Medal of Honour (MH) by the HKSAR Government in 2011 for his contributions to IT development in Hong Kong.
