Hosted by the Manufacturing and the Satellite Technical Networks

This two-part event is to outline a scenario of the day in the life of a Manufacturing Engineer working on the moon in 100 years’ time (2124).

In creating such an event we will look into the future and make assumptions of how technology will develop and what it will enable people to achieve.

This will include a road map of developments and achievements from 2024 to 2124 and identify key milestones on route. The event is designed to be challenging and to highlight the importance of Manufacturing in space as a stepping-stone to both enhancing delivery of products and services for use on Earth, as well as enabling further exploration of the Solar system.

Speakers will address the challenges that will be faced in terms of technology development and the benefits of Manufacturing in space.

Yun-Hang Cho

Lead Space Sector Engagement - AMRC - Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre

Yun leads Space Sector Engagement at the AMRC. His background is in Mechanical Engineering with a PhD in remote sensing and computational modelling of open channel flows. He was the founder of the Sheffield Space Initiative, where through projects such as the Sheffield University Balloon Lyfted Telescope (SUNBYTE) and the Sheffield rocketry team (SUNRIDE), he was able to provide aspiring Engineers and Scientists with the opportunity to work on real space projects with organisations such as DLR, ESA and NASA. He has a keen interest in future space robotics and propulsion, especially for in-orbit servicing and manufacturing, and planetary exploration. He is also currently a member of the Space Academic Network as well as the IET's Satellite Technical Network committee. 

Mohit Joshi

Founder & CEO - Interstellar Space Technologies

Mohit is the Founder & CEO of Interstellar Space Technologies, a London-based startup focused on transforming space exploration and our future in space. The company’s mission is to revolutionize the way we live and explore space by enabling mass manufacturing in space through scalable access to space services. Mohit is particularly passionate about creating materials in space that cannot be manufactured on Earth, offering numerous benefits. His work also supports the development of space-for-space infrastructure through innovative recycling and construction techniques in space. Under his leadership, Interstellar Space Technologies has earned the UCL Hatchery Startup of the Year award, received support from UCL Innovation & Enterprise and the UK Space Agency Accelerator, and secured funding for projects from the UK Space Agency. Mohit’s educational background is a blend of engineering and business. He holds an MSc in Technology Management from the Department of Space & Climate Physics at UCL’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL). His research covers a range of pioneering topics, including the James Webb Space Telescope, the Lunar Gateway Mission, and novel technology development processes in the space sector.

 

Mike Curtis-Rouse

Head of In-Orbit Servicing & Manufacturing (IOSM) - Space Catapult

Mike is the Head of In-Orbit Servicing & Manufacturing (IOSM) for the Space Catapult, a not-for-profit commercial organisation focused on the on growing the UK space sector through the innovation in new products and services. He leads a team of engineers, technologists, and analysts, with a specific focus on building services in In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing. He focuses on the development of new manufacturing approaches to be used in space, robotics and control systems and the validation of autonomous docking and capture processes in Low Earth Orbit. Mike additionally is the CEO & Co-founder for Second Star, a disruptive space mobility company developing a scalable propulsion technology for in-space and launch vehicle applications.
