Microwave Applications in Healthcare Technologies

Hosted by IET Bristol

About

This talk summarises work carried out over the last 10-15 years at Cardiff University on the use of microwaves at low powers for health monitoring (e.g. non-invasive blood glucose sensing) and at high powers for disease diagnosis (e.g. rapid release and detection of target DNA). Central to these technologies are microwave resonators, offering the dual, beneficial roles of high sensitivity for diagnosis and very efficient power transfer.

Speakers

Adrian Porch

Professor - Cardiff University

Professor Adrian Porch led Cardiff’s Centre for High Frequency Engineering from 2010-2023. He has 38 years of research experience studying the fundamental properties, electromagnetic modelling and applications of materials at high frequencies. Following his MA and PhD degrees in Physics at Cambridge University he was an academic at Birmingham University from 1990-2000, and at Cardiff University since 2000, where he has been a professor since 2007.
