Oshen: deploying a network of robots across our oceans
Comprehensive ocean monitoring system
About
Oshen’s mission is to drastically improve the understanding of our oceans with a novel in-situ observing platform. Passive drifting buoys can’t provide uniform coverage, existing autonomous robots have huge price tags and need expensive infrastructure to operate.
The solution: small sensing robots, low cost enough to deploy in large numbers, and robust enough to survive the harsh ocean environment.
Since conception in April 2022, the start-up has built several prototype micro-vessels, received funding from the European Space Agency and been featured in BBC News.
In the lecture, Ciaran will cover:
Why do we need to observe our oceans in more detail? What makes this so difficult?
How Oshen aims to solve this.
