Overview of financial market infrastructure in Hong Kong
Organized by Management Section, IET Hong Kong
About
Safe and efficient financial market infrastructure, including robust payment systems to support settlement of funds among financial institutions, is one of the key components to support Hong Kong as an international financial centre. In addition to supporting local fund transfers, in today’s increasingly interconnected global economy, seamless cross-border payment systems have become essential for facilitating international trade, supporting financial inclusion, and enabling digital transformation across nations. As technological advancements accelerate and regulatory frameworks evolve, organizations face the complex challenge of building robust infrastructure, ensuring security, and achieving interoperability to deliver efficient and secure transactions across borders.
This seminar will delve into the core technical and strategic aspects of Hong Kong’s financial market infrastructure and cross-border payment linkages, highlighting real-world examples such as the FPS connection with Thailand’s PromptPay and China’s IBPS network. Participants will gain valuable insights into the underlying technical architectures, integration methodologies, and security frameworks that underpin successful international payment collaborations. Through these case studies, attendees will better understand how different systems can work together harmoniously in a rapidly changing landscape.
Moreover, the session will share cross-border payment processes, measures in enhancing system scalability, increasing transaction speed, and strengthening security. An emphasis will be placed on innovative engineering solutions that address the unique challenges faced in international transactions—such as regulatory compliance, fraud prevention, and data privacy—ensuring reliability, safety, and seamless user experiences.
Participants will also learn practical approaches to overcoming interoperability hurdles, adapting to diverse regulatory environments, and leveraging technological advancements like blockchain, APIs, and real-time settlement systems to boost operational efficiency. The seminar aims to equip engineers, managers, and decision-makers with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive innovation within global payment infrastructures, ultimately fostering seamless financial connectivity and supporting sustainable economic growth in an increasingly borderless digital world.
