The IET Scotland Power Technical Network (PTN) is thrilled to invite you to an engaging in-person event designed to reconnect and inspire our engineering community. We are honored to welcome Lindsay Butler, Principal Electrotechnical Surveyor for the UK and Ireland at Lloyd’s Register. Since 2015, Lindsay has led specialized Electrotechnical surveys and has played a pivotal role in shaping marine technological developments across the region. In this event, he will provide expert insights on:

An Overview of Marine Electrical Propulsion – Examining the innovations and technical aspects driving the industry forward.
The Regulatory Framework – Discussing key regulatory guidelines shaping marine technology and operations.
Current and Future Developments – Exploring advancements and future trends in marine electrical systems.

This event will take place at the Doubletree by Hilton and includes a dedicated networking session, where you’ll have the chance to connect with peers and exchange ideas over refreshments.

Lindsay Butler

Principal Electrotechnical Specialist - Lloyd’s Register

Lindsay has been Principal Electrotechnical Surveyor for UK and Ireland since 2015 and is responsible for identifying and coordinating specialised Electrotechnical surveys and opportunities as well as marine technological developments within the region.  He also delivers training courses and seminars on these subjects. 

He has worked in the marine and offshore industries for the last 33 years and originally joined Lloyd’s Register in 1991 as a graduate electrical engineer.  He has worked on many types of ship and offshore new construction and existing ship projects, including LNG, tankers, container ships, FPSOs and all classes of Dynamic Positioning vessels globally.  He is based in Glasgow but has previously worked in Korea, Canada, and Malaysia as well as various locations around the UK. 

As well as his career with Lloyd’s Register, Lindsay has been a consultant in the oil and gas, defence and nuclear industries.
