About

Towards high-performance quantum computing.

Only in 2002 it was demonstrated the real possibility of using quantum computing for factoring a number considered at the time quite big: 15.

The progress since then has been awesome, with a big jump in capabilities and possibilities.

However, current understanding is that the computers for these systems will be hybrid: classical and quantum processing units will work together to solve the most complex problems.

See the reasons behind this outlook given by our two speakers and register at this webinar.

Our speakers Dr. Lois Orosa Nogueira, PhD, director of the Galicia Supercomputing Center (CESGA) and Dr. Andrés Gómez Tato, PhD, Applications & Projects Department Manager will share the latest work in Quantum computing at the centre provide some insights on the research conducted and explain why they think the future of quantum computing will be hybrid with traditional computing.

Speakers

Dr. Lois Orosa Nogueira, PhD

Director of the Galicia Supercomputing Center (CESGA) - CESGA

He is leading the Galicia Quantum Technology Hub with a investment plan of 154M€, aiming to positioning the region of Galicia as a reference in Quantum Technologies in Europe.

Lois Orosa obtained his PhD in Computer Architecture from University of Santiago de Compostela in 2013, then worked as postdoctoral researcher at the University of Campinas (Brasil) during more than 3 years and senior researcher at ETH Zürich (Switzerland) during more than 4 years.

He was a visiting researcher in multiple international research institutions, including companies like IBM or Xilinx, and Universities like University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) or Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal).

He authored more than 25 papers in top computer architecture venues like ISCA, MICRO, or HPCA.

Dr. Andrés Gómez Tato, PhD

Applications & Projects Department Manager - CESGA

He is PhD in Physics and has a long experience in computing, mainly in distributed computers. Before CESGA, he has worked in several companies  and from 2007 he is in CESGA Quantum Computing, leading the Quantum team.

He participates in several Spanish and European projects related to Quantum Computing as Quantum Spain, where he coordinates the supporting activities of the Spanish supercomputing centers named Plan Complementario de Comunicaciones Cuánticas (Complementary Plan of Quantum Communications), and NEASQC.

He has more than 90 publications in several topics related to HPC, Cloud and Quantum Computing in journals and conferences.
