Raspberry PI for Railway Signalling systems
About
Malcolm D Bint BSc(hons) CEng FIET FIRSE has been involved in railway signalling design for over 25 years and has wide experience in railway monitoring.
Malcolm will explain how these commonly available systems are used for effective monitoring of assets on the Railways such as Signals, Points, Temperatures, Track Circuits, and Automatic Half Barriers.
His RPI collects the data from assets over a multi-drop RS485 sensor network, the collected data is logged hourly and both stored locally and transferred to The Cloud allowing easy graphical display via a dedicated webpage or app; the system also allows engineers remote VNC access to the loggers to monitor more detailed diagnostic information.
