Route to Professional Registration at IET

About

If you are interested in professional registration, either now or in the future, this talk will help you understand the steps needed to gain registration with the IET/Engineering Council UK.  Covering everything from learning and qualifications requirements, to how to evidence meeting the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC) and prepare for your professional review interview, Colin will provide guidance and advice to help ensure you are well prepared to make the best application possible.

Mr Colin Sellers BEng(Hons) MBA CEng CMgr FIET FCMI

Head of Professional Recognition - The Institution of Engineering and Technology

Prior to joining the IET as Head of Professional Recognition, Colin has been a Professional Review Interviewer at the IET since 1997 and a Fellow Assessor since 2005 and represents the IET as deputy Chairman at the Engineering Council’s International Advisory Panel and as Chairman of the International Registration Committee and on a number of Working Groups, including the group that created PAS525(Framework for assessing professional engineering competence.)

Originally a Control and Instrumentation Engineer, Colin’s career also included designing control and instrumentation equipment for research applications and the design of electronic and microprocessor-based devices for use in safety-critical applications, before moving into engineering management and engineering leadership roles.  Together with an Honours Degree in Electronic Engineering, Colin also has an MBA (with Distinction).

Colin held senior, management director and leadership positions in a variety of industries and organisations, including as Chief Advisor, MCA at the BBC, Corporate Services Director at Transdev (where he was also Chair of the Nottingham Tram Consortium and led the Operations team at Edinburgh Tram), Director, Business Management and Transition at the Strategic Rail Authority and Director, Consultancy at AEA Technology Rail. 

Colin has successfully led professional engineering registration projects in number of countries internationally.  These have included a range of diverse countries such as India, the Netherlands, Portugal, Mauritius and most notably, China.  In China, Colin continues to work closely with government organisations, (including CAEIP and CIPCC) as well as with engineering societies, including the China Association for Engineering and Technology (CAST), the China Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) and many others.
