Dr Rachel Craddock

Head of Applied AI / ML R&D - Thales UK AI Centre

With 30 years of experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), Dr Rachel Craddock is a Thales expert in this field. She has used AI / ML for a broad range of applications, both civil and defence, including Electronic Warfare, cyber security, crisis management, transportation management, behaviour modelling and command and control systems. Over the past 10 years, Rachel worked on applying various forms of AI to a wide range of military and civil applications, including cyber security and defence. These projects have required a good understanding of the wide customer requirements, in order to successfully apply AI and ML to produce workable solutions.  Rachel’s current work focuses on developing safe, secure and resilient systems which contain AI/ML, and involves developing the technology needed to ensure humans can trust the AI/ML components.

Andrew Banks

Technical Specialist - LDRA

Andrew Banks is a Technical Specialist at LDRA with more than 35 years’ experience of high-integrity real-time/embedded software development.

A Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society, and Member of the Institution of the Engineering and Technology, he graduated from the University of Lancaster in 1989, and has spent most of his career within the aerospace, defence and automotive sectors.

Andrew is committed to standards development - he has been involved with MISRA since 2007 and has been Chairman of the MISRA C Working Group since early 2013; he is the UK Head of Delegation to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 “Software and Systems Engineering”; and an active participant in other BSI, ISO, IET and SCSC work, including ISO 26262 and ISO/IEC 29119.

Ben Thorn

Product Safety Engineer - Thales UK

Ben Thorn is a Product Safety Engineer at THALES, specializing in Maritime and Autonomous Systems Safety. With an educational background in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, he is currently pursuing a PhD in Robotics and Autonomous Systems within the Farscope CDT, focusing on effective AI governance. Ben has over 7 years of experience working within the Ministry of Defence, including roles advising AI governance and autonomous vehicle trials, achieving a letter of delegation during his work on the Maritime Sensors Enhancement Team programme.
