Site Visit to Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel
Organized by Younger Members Section Committee, IET Hong Kong
About
What advanced tunnelling technologies shape Hong Kong’s highway infrastructure? How do Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and geotechnical innovations contribute to building a safe and efficient tunnel? What engineering solutions ensure connectivity across Kowloon East and West—and how are safety and sustainability integrated into large-scale projects?
Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel, part of Hong Kong’s Route 6, is a 3.4 km dual two-lane road with 3.1 km of tunnels, linking Kai Tak Interchange and Lam Tin Interchange. This critical infrastructure project, managed by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (East Development Office), enhances regional accessibility and supports major developments like the Kai Tak Development and Kowloon East Central Business District.
During the site visit, participants will first attend a project introduction and gain insights into TBM technology and geotechnical innovations through a sharing session, followed by a guided tour of the Eastbound Tunnel, along with a safety demonstration and expert Q&A sessions.
