Space Economy - Tomorrow's World Today?

About

Join the Central London Network for our 2024 Christmas Lecture where you get the chance to listen to a fun lecture followed by sandwiches, tea, coffee, alcoholic refreshments, and music played by a live band in the spectacular venue overlooking the Southbank

The global Space economy is expected to grow to $1.8 trillion by 2030. The Space industry is vibrant, and opportunities abound. From communications, navigation, to earth observation, the applications are wide and spread across defence, civil and commercial sectors.

Looking further afield to the Moon, and deep Space, supporting technologies are enabling things that were once dreams real possibilities. Lunar bases, asteroid mining, space based solar power, commercial space stations, manufacturing in Space are no longer pipe dreams. But there are also risks; Space debris, malign actors, a lack of 'Space Law' all adds to the feeling of the 'Wild West'. This lecture will take you on a journey through Space, the advancements, the possibilities and the hazards, along with how the future generations could become part of the 'Space Economy'.

Julie Holt-Jones

Co-Founder/Executive Director - Space4Sight

Julie draws on 30 years of unusually broad "hands on" experience in the international space domain to inform her trusted counsel to companies and governments at the most senior levels. Having directed and led successful missions for ESA and NASA, she has also driven complex, multinational private sector space ventures spanning defence, civil, and commercial programmes. These have demanded navigating intricate, (sometimes conflicting) space policies, geopolitics, cultural/language differences and coping with hostile threats, all in the absence of an agreed and effective "Space Law" framework. Her advice includes identifying future commercial advantage, leveraging developing technology.

An experienced NED, and sought after public speaker, Julie is passionate about raising awareness of the benefits and opportunities that Space can provide. With extensive experience of living and working in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe she provides unrivalled strategic guidance to those seeking success in this arena.
