About

Staying Alive: Debunking common misconceptions about body armour. Hollywood films have ‘glamourized’ the perception of body armour. Body armour is in fact a sophisticated system of materials, providing differing levels of protection against different threats to vulnerable parts of the body.
This lecture will debunk some common myths about body armour and will discuss the UK’s world leading work in body armour research, development and acquisition. Body Armour is important for soldiers in the field and for police facing knife-wielding criminals, etc.  Dr. Elund Lewis leads a Team at Qinetiq designing better protection that is less cumbersome to wear, particularly for women, whose bodily shapes differ significantly from those of men!

Speaker: Dr. Eluned Lewis, Team Leader, SH ‘Survivability’, Qinetiq
