Technical Visit – InnoTours at the E&M InnoZone of Electrical and Mechanical Service Department (EMSD), the Government of HKSAR
Organized by Management Section, IET Hong Kong
About
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the HKSAR Government plays a pivotal role in driving Innovation and Technology (I&T) to support Hong Kong’s evolution into a smart city and its pursuit of carbon neutrality. To foster collaborative research and practical technology applications, EMSD has established the "E&M InnoZone" at its headquarters. This dedicated exhibition platform showcases cutting-edge, real-world I&T projects developed in partnership with local startups, universities, and research institutions. By integrating advanced technology into public services and infrastructure, the zone serves as a living laboratory for modern engineering solutions.
This technical visit will provide participants with first-hand insights into the digital transformation of engineering asset management and smart infrastructure. The visit will delve into the practical applications of Building Information Modelling and Asset Management (BIM-AM) systems, demonstrating how digital twins and asset management tools optimize project delivery and building operations. Delegates will also observe the integration of artificial intelligence and robotics in predictive maintenance, including real-time health diagnostics for power supply systems—often referred to as the "Electrical Doctor"—autonomous track maintenance robots, and unmanned digital modelling tools. Additionally, innovative on-site tools such as smart construction AR helmets will be highlighted to showcase enhanced safety and efficiency for field engineers.
Furthermore, the session will explore the latest advancements in green technology and public safety applications. Participants will learn how tools like the Hong Kong Solar Irradiation Map and Renewable Energy Explorer optimize green energy harvesting, and how eco-materials are utilized in 3D-printed sustainable construction. The visit will also cover intelligent transportation and public safety networks, highlighting systems designed for tramway collision prevention, driver drowsiness detection, and IoT-enabled smart warning systems. This visit will also offer a valuable platform for attendees to network and share insights on future technological adoption.
