-             Climate Change and Fuel Choice

-             Renewable Energy

-             Natural Gas

-             Nuclear Power

-             Powering the Future

-             Low Carbon Living

About the centre

Sponsored by CLP Power, the CLP Power Low Carbon Energy Education Centre is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. The education centre is located at City University’s campus which showcases the importance of low carbon energy in addressing climate change.

The centre has 5 themed zones:

·                Climate Change and Fuel Choice

·                Burning fossil fuels contributes to climate change but there is no perfect fuel yet to completely replace it. This zone examines what our best current options are, bearing in mind reliability, cost, emissions and safety.

·                Renewable Energy

·                As the development of renewable energy becomes more mature, it has a pivotal role to play in reducing emissions. This zone gives a comprehensive introduction to common types of renewable energy such as wind power, hydro power and solar power. Visitors are given a holistic view on the feasibility of applying renewable energy in Hong Kong.

·                Natural Gas

·                Natural gas will play an increasingly key role in Hong Kong’s future fuel mix. In this zone, visitors can learn about natural gas from its formation and production to its transport and use for power generation. It also showcases how we can enhance Hong Kong’s energy security by tapping diversified sources of natural gas.

·                Nuclear Power

·                Nuclear power is a reliable and clean energy source, but social acceptance is a challenge. People are understandably concerned over nuclear safety and waste management. This zone covers the full spectrum of information from nuclear basics, nuclear safety, fuel cycle management, radiation in our daily life, to the future development of nuclear energy. It is also equipped with a 235° 3D Immersive Display System that takes visitors to the insides of a nuclear reactor.

·                Powering the Future

·                Climate change is a global concern. Scientists, researchers and policy makers are working together to tackle its impact. This zone introduces the future development potential of low carbon energy sources.

The centre features multimedia and interactive elements for the best understanding to carbon neutrality effort in Hong Kong and what could be done next.
