Technical visit to Farmacy Green Space
Organized by: Younger Members Section Committee, IET Hong Kong
About
Having rapid financial and population growth but with little land, along with labour-intensive traditional farming deterring the new generation to enter the agricultural industry, it was inevitable for Hong Kong to be introduced to, develop and promote urban farming, in order to obtain freshly grown, quality-assured produce.
Founded in 2018, Farmacy not only brought urban farming to HK, but expanded on the execution with innovative, data-driven and decentralised farming technology; becoming the first in Asia to create Smart Mobile Farms with cloud-based control capabilities for highly urbanised cities. While Farmacy is enabling farming in supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, malls, offices, schools, and residential clubhouses, they are also building a community, raising awareness and striving to achieve sustainability.
We believe engineers can, and will play a big part in this, and therefore a visit would inspire more to embark on the journey to create a sustainable future for HK.
