Technical Visit to Kai Tak Sports Park
Organized by Power and Energy Section, IET Hong Kong
About
Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) is Hong Kong’s largest integrated sports and entertainment landmark. Located on the former tarmac of the old Kai Tak Airport, KTSP is the ultimate destination for sports enthusiasts, families, and food lovers alike. At the heart of KTSP is the Kai Tak Stadium, which can accommodate up to 50,000 spectators. The stadium boasts a retractable roof and a versatile pitch that can transition between natural turf and other surfaces, making it ideal for large-scale events ranging from cultural festivities to sports competitions and outdoor concerts, regardless of the weather.
Complementing the stadium, the indoor Kai Tak Arena accommodates 10,000 guests and is designed for major international tournaments in badminton, basketball, gymnastics, and more. Its pillar-free layout ensures unobstructed views, making it suitable for a variety of events.
Adding to the park’s offerings, the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground is another outdoor area, ideal for football, rugby, and training sessions. It features a 5,000-seat capacity and a world-class multi-lane athletic track.
Within the sports park is Kai Tak Mall, spanning 700,000 square feet and featuring over 200 stores. The park is also highly accessible, with MTR Kai Tak Station and Sung Wong Toi Station with approx. a 10-minute walk.
The visit aims to deepen public understanding of national development with the following agenda items:
· Overall design and key features of the Kai Tak Sports Park;
· Innovative building services installations;
· Advanced technology for building operation and maintenance.
