Technical Visit to Ngong Ping 360 Cable Cars
Organized by RTS Section, IET Hong Kong
About
This half-day (3.5 hours) technical visit to Ngong Ping 360 cable cars offers a fascinating opportunity to delve into the intricacies of one of Hong Kong's remarkable engineering achievement. The 5.7-kilometre bicable gondola lift system that spans from Tung Chung to the scenic Ngong Ping area on the summit of Lantau Island showcases excellence in engineering technology and precise craftsmanship.
During the visit, participants will have the chance to embark on an exclusive E&M facilities tour, granting access to restricted engineering zones where they can witness firsthand best practices of the maintenance regime and relevant safety protection systems in place. This hands-on experience will provide valuable insights into the inner working principles of the gondola lift system, highlighting the dedication and expertise required to ensure its smooth operation.
Furthermore, attendees will have the opportunity to observe operations at both the Airport Island and/or Nei Lak Shan Angle Stations, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the complex network that enables the seamless transportation of passengers between the two points. These observations will underscore the strategic placement of these stations and the synchronized efforts involved in maintaining a safe and efficient service.
The visit encompasses a captivating Crystal Cabin experience. It provides a journey of at least 25 minutes in one direction from/to Ngong Ping Village. Additionally, the newly unveiled Cable Car Discovery Center enhances the visit by featuring immersive VR headsets that vividly demonstrate the behind-the-scenes history and operations in an interactive way. Nevertheless, this programme may be subject to change due to the tight schedule arrangements.
