About

The advent of new diagnostics and digital fabrication systems provides the opportunity to move to a more patient-centric healthcare provision. However, the cost of customisation is a major barrier for many applications. This presentation will explore how Additive Manufacturing and AI data processing tools can be utilised to build automated design-through-manufacture pipelines for patient specific devices. The body of work explored how input patient data fidelity impacted product outputs and examined potential scalable, viable, options for healthcare providers.

The Speaker:

Dr Connor Myant is a Reader and group lead in the Advanced Manufacturing Group at the Dyson School of Design Engineering. Connor’s general research interests include: Design for Additive Manufacture, Mass Customisation, development of 3D Printing technology and software, and Tribology. He is currently module leader for Design for Additive Manufacture  on the Design Engineering Master’s Degree. Prior to starting his lectureship, Connor worked in the Imperial Tribology Group, where he held a Junior Research Fellowship studying synovial fluid lubrication of artificial articular joints. He gained his PhD from Imperial College London in 2010 on the development of experimental techniques for investigating lubricated, compliant, bearing contacts. Connor graduated from the University of Exeter in 2006 with a Bachelors (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering.
