Is there life beyond planet Earth, is one of the great questions of all time. This talk will bring us up to date with the latest findings.
View EventA session based around the topic of oil filled transformers hosted by Neil Denbow of Eden Oil to share his vast experience and knowledge of the transformer industry, the impending change of regulation to completely remove PCBs, the importance of transformer maintenance including sampling methods and cleaning of oil (versus replacement), the impact on the cost of ownership and insights into the importance of correct specification.
View EventCornish Lithium will host a brief technical presentation led by a member of our engineering team, offering insights into the processing and engineering behind our Demonstration Plant.
View EventRimesh Patel (Rimesh.patel@ietvolunteer.org) Quantum technology is transforming security networks by introducing qubit-based architecture, which can outperform traditional computers in solving complex problems. These quantum computers can tackle encryption systems that would typically take conventional computers decades to crack. This advancement has sparked a focus on developing “post-quantum cryptography,” a new level of encryption designed to safeguard data from the power of quantum computing. Global research is intensively exploring this area, with experts predicting that within a decade, large-scale quantum computers may be capable of breaking most public-key cryptosystems, the backbone of today's internet security. This presents a dual challenge: not only a security issue but also a significant privacy concern, particularly when it involves personal information. Governments are especially vigilant, aware that adversaries could collect encrypted data now, only to decrypt it later when quantum technology becomes viable. Combined with the potential misuse of Generative AI to amplify cyber-attacks, the urgency to protect sensitive information from future quantum threats has intensified the race to innovate secure cryptographic solutions. In this talk, Raj will discuss the rapid rise in A.I & Cyber Security, Machine Learning & Detection of Threats and post-quantum cryptography to secure data. His talk will highlight opportunities and future visions in this field.
View EventNuclear fusion offers the possibility of long-term sustainable low-carbon energy, but some formidable technical challenges remain to be solved, including the fuel cycle. This talk will discuss the fuel used by fusion reactors and explore some of the challenges and potential solutions involved in providing a sustainable fusion fuel cycle.
View EventThis talk explores the evolution of traditional broadcast production, which relies on proprietary hardware and on-site personnel, and how this model is being transformed through cloud-based solutions.
View EventThis presentation will explore how Additive Manufacturing and AI data processing tools can be utilised to build automated design-through-manufacture pipelines for patient specific devices.
View EventOil and gas fields in deep water have increasingly been exploited as the more accessible fields have become depleted. Their exploitation brings ever larger challenges for technology, scale and logistics and are a success story that is little heard about in the UK. Barrovian Tony Oldfield as, Project Director of most of the developments off Africa, has the firsthand experience to tell us about these engineering exploits.
View EventIn the year that has been selected to mark 200 years of railways, I think it is appropriate to take a bit of a retrospective view. It is true railway signalling evolved by accident and I intend to mention some of the more significant accidents that provoked change. I have always been interested in history and am the author of "A Chronology of Railway Signalling 1825-2018" that documents the evolution.
View EventThis seminar will explore the engineering of confinement systems for a commercially relevant prototype fusion power plant, with a focus on key manufacturing priorities.
View EventThis evening will provide an opportunity over a drink and light bites for members, partners and friends, plus guests from local industry and academia, to meet and chat about the many activities and opportunities in the region. The initial meet and greet, will be followed by an entertaining half-hour talk on The Digital Thread presented by our guest speakers Nigel Whitaker and Matt Wylie. A Digital Thread is the digital flow of data that links the product life cycle from trade study design concepts to in-service use. We will be exploring the difference between digital thread and digital twin.
View EventHave you ever stopped to look at the many types of telecommunications towers, masts, or poles that line our streets, roadsides, or rooftops? Have you ever wondered why there are so many or what they do? This lecture will reveal all.
