About

This webinar will present the theory and measurement techniques for determination of complex permittivity of materials.

An Overview of Microwave Measurement Techniques for Determination of Complex Permittivity and Permeability of Materials

(Dr Zulkifly Abbas, Associate Professor, Xiamen University Malaysia, Sepang, Malaysia).

This talk covers the principles of microwave measurement techniques, focusing on complex permittivity (𝜖*) and permeability (μ*), key methods including rectangular waveguide technique, open ended coaxial probes,  free space measurements, and resonant cavities, and their applications in industries such as agriculture, electronics, and biomedicine. It also highlights challenges and future advancements.

Advances in Microwave Sensor Technology for Material Characterisation

(Dr You Kok Yeow, Associate Professor, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru, Malaysia).

This talk explores innovations in microwave sensors, including open ended coaxial probes, microstrip resonators and DRAs, their integration with VNAs, and applications in non-destructive testing (NDT). Emerging trends, such as sensor miniaturisation and IoT-enabled systems, are also discussed.

Enhancing Microwave Material Characterisation with Machine Learning

(Dr Lee Kim Yee, Associate Professor, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman,Kuala Lumpur).

This talk highlights how machine learning transforms microwave measurements, showcasing algorithms such as ANNs, data preparation, and predictive modelling of material properties. Case studies and future opportunities for combining data-driven and physics-based approaches are presented.

The Webinar will be moderated by Ir. Dr. Arjuna Marzuki, Associate Professor
Wawasan Open University, Penang, Malaysia.
