Project management techniques

About

Success in engineering and technology means there can be no room for error. However, ensuring a large project is managed without problems is sometimes easier said than done.

The aim of this two-day course is to bring out the factors that make the difference between success and failure. It provides key concepts to enable project managers and others to understand the full
breadth of project management and offers practical tools to help successful delivery or projects.

During this course you will be introduced to tools for handling the various aspects of project management – technical, strategic, organisational and people management.

The scope of the programme includes tools and techniques for:
– Stakeholder management
– Requirements management
– Scope management
– Estimating
– Scheduling
– People management
– Monitoring and control

On this course you will learn to:
– Identify, engage with and improve relationships with stakeholders
– Develop clearer requirements and scope, requiring fewer changes
– Produce more realistic estimates
– Develop more reliable schedules
– Effectively manage delivery
– Appreciate alternative approaches to project management
– Understand project-related terminology

Who should attend?
This programme is aimed at anyone looking for a set of pragmatic techniques to use when delivering projects. It adds the ‘how’ to formal methodologies such as PRINCE2 (although you don’t need a formal project management qualification to benefit from this programme – no prior knowledge or experience is required).

Programme

Format
A practical two-day course involving exercise, case studies, formal presentations and tutor-facilitated discussions. This programme is delivered as a ‘Live’ Webinar, via Zoom, making full use of the break-out facility so that the same level of interaction between participants and with the programme director can be maintained. The same exercises are used regardless of delivery format. As near as possible, the virtual experience replicates the classroom experience – but without the commute!

The course consists of a short introductory session (20-30 minutes) followed by four ‘Live’ Webinar classroom sessions (2.5 hours each, including a 15-minute break). It uses a case study as the basis of a series of exercises so that you can try out the techniques as your learning builds.
